Favre helping Webb
Joe Webb wants to be the Minnesota Vikings' starting quarterback. So, why not have the man who held that job for two seasons help?
Webb said he has worked out with Brett Favre the past few weeks in Hattiesburg, Miss., and he's happy to learn from the 41-year-old quarterback who holds most of the NFL's passing records.
"It's great to have a person like that as my contact," Webb told the University of Alabama-Birmingham website for a Wednesday story. "He can still sling it."
Webb, a sixth-round draft pick out of UAB last year, started the Vikings' final two games last season, but he shouldn't face any competition for the job from Favre, who filed his retirement papers in January. Favre's brother and mother said last week that they believe the quarterback is done with his NFL career and won't come out of retirement for a third time.
That leaves Webb competing with Christian Ponder, the Vikings' first-round draft pick in April, for the job unless the team signs a veteran quarterback after the NFL lockout ends. Tarvaris Jackson, who has started in past seasons, recently acknowledged that his time in Minnesota is over.
"I just want to show the world what I can do," said Webb, who completed 54 of 89 passes for 477 yards with three interceptions last season.

Coach Childress on the Hot Seat?
Team owner Zygi Wilf spent a second day at the Minnesota Vikings' practice facility on Thursday, watching practice, talking with coach Brad Childress and several veteran players, and even eating lunch in the team's cafeteria.
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported, according to NFL sources, that Wilf's discussions with quarterback Brett Favre, guard Steve Hutchinson and defensive linemen Jared Allen, Kevin Williams and Pat Williams included the topic of Childress.
Wilf declined interview requests, but the newspaper reported the owner was displeased with how Childress handled the release of wide receiver Randy Moss -- not utilizing team protocols -- but perhaps not with the decision to release Moss, who skewered the Vikings' coaching staff during a postgame rant last Sunday.
Wilf could be seen talking with Childress during Thursday's practice, and the coach is aware Wilf also has talked to a cross-section of players. What impact that has remains to be seen.
"You'd have to talk to those people," Childress said.

Brett Favre Allegations
from: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5663024
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- The NFL says it is reviewing allegations involving Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre, who the website Deadspin says sent racy messages and photos to a woman who worked for the team while he played for the Jets.
League spokesman Greg Aiello said Friday, "We are reviewing the matter," when asked about reports that Favre sent voice mails and photos to Jenn Sterger, who did game-day work for the Jets.

Moss back to Minnesota?!!
from: http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=dw-mosstalks100510
According to foxsports.com, the Patriots are in talks about dealing Moss to the Minnesota Vikings. At this point, they might as well ship him out since this is probably too far down the line, and too public, for Moss to ever return.
No one knows what the Vikings are offering but unless it’s the injured Sidney Rice (and it isn’t) New England isn’t getting fair on-field value. Based on Minnesota opening a spot on its roster Tuesday, draft picks are more likely.
It never hurts to load up on those but New England is already stocked – including two first-rounders in 2011. Besides, no draft pick is going to give Wes Welker room to work this season.
Based on conventional football opinion, the Patriots can’t possibly be a better offense without Randy Moss, who is still a serious deep threat.
So there has to be more. Yes, Moss is in the final year of his contract and has said if he isn’t offered an in-season extension he’ll leave the franchise in February. Trading Moss now allows the Patriots to get some value on a receiver they are likely to lose anyway.

...or not?!!!
Brett Favre was back on the practice field Wednesday morning -- warming up with the Oak Grove High School football team in Hattiesburg, Miss. -- amid reports that the Minnesota Vikings have offered the quarterback additional financial incentives to return.
Favre did not appear to be working out Wednesday morning, according to reports by NFL Network's Scott Hanson and The Associated Press, but he simply ran onto the field and began lightly tossing the ball with players in warm-ups. Favre then helped and assistant coach as the players went through drills.

Vikes & Saints Trash Talking
from: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=5228130
MINNEAPOLIS -- Opening night can't get here fast enough for the New Orleans Saints and Minnesota Vikings.
Saints safety Darren Sharper is engaging in some serious trash talk on Twitter with former teammates Bryant McKinnie and Visanthe Shiancoe of the Vikings, with Brett Favre right in the middle of it.
Sharper touched things off after Favre announced he was having ankle surgery last week. The talkative safety tweeted "X marks the spot" in reference to the quarterback's ankle. The comment touched a nerve with the Vikings, who believe the Saints took several late hits on their 40-year-old quarterback in New Orleans' overtime victory over Minnesota in the NFC title game in January.
The Vikings responded in kind on Thursday, first after practice and then in cyberspace, more than three months before the teams kick off the NFL season in New Orleans on Sept. 9.
"Sharper had surgery, too. And it was the knee," Shiancoe told members of the media on Thursday morning. "So if 'X' marks the spot on Brett, I wonder what would mark the spot on Sharper? I know which one it is. I know exactly which one it is."
The words quickly got back to Sharper, who challenged Shiancoe to a bet on the season-opening game, throwing in a playfully juvenile twist on the tight end's name for good measure.
"So visanthe stankoe X marks the spot on me, how bout X marks the spot for how many catches and TDs you'll have come Thursday night," Sharper fired back. "X [equals] zero.
"If you feeling yourself put your game check on it. No TDs and less than 3 catches you give me your game check. Now whose talking."
Shiancoe, one of Minnesota's most active tweeters, did not immediately respond to Sharper's baiting, but McKinnie did not hesitate.
"Oh so I heard u was on twitter going in, but I missed it! Man u don't want these problems."
Favre has yet to inform the Vikings if he will return for a second season in purple. But most view his decision to have surgery as an indicator that he will be back.
McKinnie, the big left tackle, tweeted to Sharper that the Vikings offensive line is "the secret service and Brett is Obama, so try 2 get thru if u want 2! Now this is ur warning!"

Were you by chance one of the 30 million?

It’s no wonder Favre won the NFC Offensive P.O.W. honor, because just about the entire football world was watching. After setting an all-time cable record for viewership of an NFL game in the their meeting on Monday Night Football on ESPN, the numbers for Sunday’s game were even more massive by comparison. The 30 million people that watched the game made it the second-most watched game in the history of FOX NFL broadcasts – trailing only the 32.1 million drawn by the Cowboys-49ers meeting in November 1995. How big was it? It drew the most viewers on any network since the Academy Awards in February. The prime-time portion of the game (after 6 p.m. local time) drew 39 million viewers and a whopping 37 share of the TVs in use. By comparison, Game 4 of the World Series in prime time drew 23.3 million viewers and a 22 share.
