Prayer Issue #4: Same-sex Marriage

From a letter written by now President-elect Obama to the San Francisco-based Alice B. Toklas Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Democratic Club:

“I want to congratulate all of you who have shown your love for each other by getting married these last few weeks,” Obama wrote. “I support extending fully equal rights and benefits to same sex couples under both state and federal law. That is why I support repealing the Defense of Marriage Act and the ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ policy, and the passage of laws to protect LGBT Americans from hate crimes and employment discrimination. And that is why I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states.”

Some may ask, "Why is this such a bad thing? Let people get married to whomever they want!"

This is an increasingly popular response, but the ramifications of such as decision are oftentimes not fully considered.

Our country was created on the Judeo-Christian value system as it is presented in the Bible. The only reason we don't already have same-sex marriage is because of that value system. If you allow homosexual couples to marry, you make meaningless that value system and you no longer have a foot to stand on regarding other marital situations such as the marriage of two men and a woman, two women and a man, three women, a woman and a horse, a man and his dog, etc...

Time and again, we see that when we pull away from the Judeo-Christian value system, we digress into the insanely bizarre and the dangerous (ie partial birth abortion, euthanasia, probation for child sex offenders, etc). The God of Heaven and Earth has said in Leviticus 18, "Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable." Why is it detestable? Because God has created the blueprint for "life to the full" (John 10:10) because He loves people, and this goes against His blueprint. It may seem like life (and may, like all sin, be enjoyable for a season), but, in the end, it leads to only partially living and eventually death.

So, please be praying for President-elect Obama to see the Biblical truth on this issue. Thousands of individuals whom God loves and our entire nation depend on it.

I am so frustrated that gays and lesbians say they just want the right to be married, just like heterosexuals. They have EXACTly the same rights as my husband and I do. No more, no less. It's their choice if they don't want to marry within those rights.
