Making Memories

Sunday evening through Tuesday afternoon, my family and I went camping in Connecticut. We had a great 2 1/2 days of memory-making escapades from family walks on the beach to setting up and taking down our tent to designing the most elaborate pudgie-pies. And it got me thinking: this is truly what life as a family is all about. My brilliant wife once said concerning television (and I think it applies here as well), "I want to live my life, not watch others live theirs." How true...

I just want to speak to myself and to all 4 of you who are reading this. :) Resist the urge to spend all of your time in front of a TV set or in front of your computer screen (even when you want to read over all my posts just one more time!). Make memories!! Especially if you have kids, this is the stuff they will remember when they think back on their time with you. I've gotta admit it: after a long day at work dealing with who knows what, I am tempted to just phase out in front of a computer screen. But, then, before I know it, the daylight hours are dwindling and it's night-night time for the kiddos...and I have missed another day of memory-making. I have noticed that when I make myself go play with the kids (even when I am tired out of my mind), I get recharged; it isn't as hard as I had thought it was. The kids love it, I love it, and we can stamp yet another good, long-lasting memory into the book of memories.

Too true. I don't watch TV anymore. But my wife worries that we've replaced TV with time in front of the computer. But this is mostly after the kids are in bed. There's too much to do with the kids and I don't want to miss any of it!

Several times I have come home from work feeling defeated and completely stressed out. I've even told myself, right before walking in the door, that I would remain upset no matter what. But as soon as I walk in and the kids see me and run to me or yell for me (or hide from me to start hide-and-seek), I cannot stay angry. They cheer me right up. Praise God for these little ones!

God wants us to have relationships; puts us on one accord, together. God first, family next...Man shall not be alone I will make him a helpmeet; go multiply; love one another; pray for each other. God shows us all the time that its not "me", but "we and us". God is truly all together correct. When we lean on God, God gives us His strength, love, playfulness, kindness, gentle spirit -- the good fruits. God is surely awesome
