"It's the little things..."

My wife and I watched a terrific movie tonight entitled "Midnight Clear". It is a a wonderfully-written story about five divinely-interwoven lives that are touched by the little things they do for each other. Possibly the best line in the movie is when a pastor tells his demoralized and hopeless youth director that "sometimes we do the right thing simply because it's the right thing." And because the youth director did a good deed just because it was good, it changed someone's life drastically.

It got me thinking: God doesn't tell us to understand WHY we do the things He tells us to do; He just asks us to do them. Only Heaven will reveal the lives that were changed through our little deeds done simply because they were the right things to do.

What an honor we have to be used by the great sovereign God to make drastic changes for the good in people's lives. Smiling at the person in the checkout line, giving a few bucks to someone in need, writing a card to let someone know you are thinking of him/her, taking time you don't have to listen--really listen--to someone's story: these are the little things that make all the difference in the world.
