Two Polls Close: what do they mean?

In the past week, two of the polls I posted on the right-hand side of this blog closed. So, now it's time to analyze the data. hmmmmm....

#1: How often do you pray for the USA?
12 people voted in this poll, and I really appreciated the honesty. A single person was dedicated to praying for our nation everyday. Two of the 12 said pretty regularly, and over half (7 of 12) admitted to only praying for the good ol' US of A whenever they get around to thinking about it. And a single guy (or gal) admitted to "rarely". Interestingly, no one said "never"; that is a good thing. But, in a day and age when we are in desperate need economically, militarily, and socially, St. James' simple indicative of "You do not have, because you do not ask God" (James 4:2) reminds all of us that prayer may need to take a more prominent role in all of our lives very soon. If we don't take the time to pray, I'm not sure we can spend that time doing other things like complaining.

Analysis of poll #2 coming soon...

I am so guilty of irregular prayer. We made a recent commitment to do so more regularly, and have been pretty faithful to that, but still have a ways to go.

Jesus chastised the Jewish leaders when, in John 5:39-40 he said, "You diligently study the Scriptures because you think that by them you possess eternal life. These are the Scriptures that testify about me, yet you refuse
to come to me to have life." They thought that by "knowing" the Scriptures they knew God. But that would be like saying I really knew George Washington after reading a biography about him. No, I would know ABOUT him, but I don't know him.

But to "know" someone is to have an intimate relationship with them. We are called to that through a life of prayer. As Jesus said in John 17:3 "Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."
