Prayer Issue #2: Israel

Almost immediately following the election, both the leadership of Hamas and Iranian President Ahmadinejad sent congratulations to Obama. I have blogged on this before, but once again this concerns me. What is it about Obama that I don't know that makes these enemies of Israel (and the United States) love our new president-elect? Is it simply his muslim name, or is it something worse? This is worthy of our prayer.

Also worthy of our prayer is the fact that, by and large, there are more in the Democratic Party than in the Republican Party who are not supportive of Israel. What influence will these people have on our next president?

On a positive note, Obama's pick for Chief-of-Staff, Rahm Emanuel, is Jewish, he once served as a captain in the Israeli army, and both of his parents currently abide in Israel. Emanuel believes staunchly in Israel's right to exist. And his father served in the Israeli army during the war of 1948.

Obama, being a relatively new face on the political landscape, is going to have plenty of people (good and bad) trying desperately to influence him. As a Bible believer, I believe that God's promise to Jacob (later to be called Israel) still applies today: "Whoever blesses you I will bless, and whoever curses you I will curse." Pray that our next president will be one who blesses the nation of Israel.
